Hot on the heels of the announcement of the iPhone Activation tool, the team behind all the work on the iPhone Dev Wiki is getting ready to release their iPhone Interface Tool, which has an amazing set of features, and more are coming. This is an update they issued a little while ago with their plans for the tool.
We have successfully written a tool named iPhoneInterface allowing for some basic manipulation of things on the phone, and are releasing it tonight. We are including source code so you can understand the techniques we have used so far. We will be expanding the functionality of this tool significantly tomorrow. The best news is that we have prototype code that allows the ability to:
- Run any desired application already residing on the phone.
- Control what processes run on the phone (currently implementation is very hackish)
- Move files around on the phone
- Enable viewing of verbose information during the restore process
- Activate the phone without iTunes and without a token
Note: Not all of the features listed above are necessarily included in tonight’s initial release.
We are continuing significant work on this tool and will probably have similarly worthwhile updates tomorrow.
I should note that right now, if you aren’t working on hacking the iPhone yourself, this release is primarily interesting for academic reasons. Still, this opens iPhone hacking to an even larger group, which will hopefully mean that the end-user useful features will be coming even sooner. Right now though, we are still in the early days so don’t expect too much from these early releases.

Amazing! I was wondering how long it was going to take before something like this was released. keep up the good work. I’m still waiting on apple to ship me my phone, but following this news is exciting while I am waiting for my device.
One Step closer to being sim free. I want an iPhone, but ATT sucks in my area. I hope it will be soon that the iPhone will work on T-Mobile

t-mobile sucks, just to let you know. they are the only major provider who still does not offer 3G service.

T mobile sucks why? Because they don’t offer 3G? Must suck for all the iPhone users out there giving up their 3G connectivity when they switch to TMobile from ATT… Oooh wait, they won’t be, and your point made no sense to this post about the IPHONE.
@Alex : Keep your comments and opinions to yourself. Some of us who have T-Mobile think its great. Its cheaper and for someone who had cingular/at&t before..cingular drops a crapton of calls and the quality is absolutely horrible, switched to tmo and have never had one dropped call nor any problems at all! Even if they run off the same towers!
Also, you sure as hell cannot call Cingular anytime you would like for customer service like you can Tmo.. 24/7/365 days a year, they are there!
And who cares if they dont have 3g service yet?? Since the iPhone is purely 2.5G, meaning only GPRS and EDGE, it really doesnt freaking matter! T-Mo has GPRS and EDGE, so it makes no sense to make such a stupid comment like that.

There is no perfect provider and I am happy with what I have (which is T-Mobile)- no need to bash someone just because they are different than you.

2046, They are hoping to hack it enough that you can run anything on it, but even if they do, it’s going to be up to Skype to release it, because even though the iPhone runs OS X, it’s not the same as the desktop OS X, and it runs on an ARM CPU, rather than x86 or PowerPC I’m not sure that’s something they’d do, for fear or pissing off Apple.
So I’m confused. Is this a windows only app but the mac version is on the way or not? Thanks.
I just want to point out that an unlock is not “all” that’s needed. The iPhone is currently something of a half-baked product — c.f. the Notes application, complete lack of 3rd-party software support, complete lack of Bluetooth support for anything other than monaural headsets, broken Mail client, complete lack of local filesystem access… the list goes on and on. Just about *all* of this could be fixed with the ability to crack the phone to run 3rd-party binaries. gcc can already build mach-o ARM binaries.

Update (7/13): iPhone Unlocking Imminent? They are talking to the GSM radio. This could be the last step, the iPhone could be unlocked by this weekend!
Carrier preference is very subjective. Let people have their opinion, it only means who THEY prefer… No need to flame.

you can’t see your wallpaper when your phone is plugged in to your pc or any power outlet. Try unplugging it and looking
i had purschased a iphone from china, but its a different iphone with 256m. I know this is a copied and fake one. Is there any way i can make a hack for this device? this device those a few things like the apple iphone. its a wonderful product for someone wanting a unlocked phone. right now i have my t-mobile attached and i still have another sim card slot for another provider.
