More setbacks for the hacking community centered around the iPhone Dev Wiki, but optimism too.
- The restore effort hasn’t quite proved a dead end but it’s on it’s last legs. We can’t seem to do what we want with the restore process. Our efforts were focusing around Restore.plist, but we haven’t gotten anywhere useful with this, so most of us are moving on.
- We have made some progress (can’t say significant) on the hardware recovery side (iBoot). The bad news is that we are suddenly having to do a bunch of work with low-level functions that have proven very hard to understand. I don’t know where this puts our efforts on the timeline. It may go faster or slower than the restore efforts went.
- We are also making progress with the more physical side of the hardware. This will probably take a couple of days.
- We are still planning on a pretty major (to us) release tonight. It won’t be an unlocker but it will open the door for people to understand some of the work we’ve done so far. We’re very proud of it and hope it leads to future efforts.
