Apple is calling a press conference in London next Tuesday, which has some speculating that they are going to announce their European iPhone partners.
Apple calls on UK press as iPhone talk swirls - Yahoo News
Apple, whose slick, touch-screen device combines its popular iPod music player, a video player and Web browser, is expected to hand a UK sale deal to Spanish Telefonicas O2 UK unit, a German deal to Deutsche Telekoms T-Mobile and a French deal to France Telecoms Orange.
Apple declined to divulge details about the planned news conference in London, and an Apple spokesman in Germany said only that the company would announce which telecoms operators had clinched the sales deal by the end of September.
I4u News brings word that Media Markt, a german consumer electronics retailer is already featuring flashy displays for the iPhone, which it promises will be on sale by the end of the year.
All the imagery is for the US version , and there is no specific information about which German wireless carriers will be involved in the launch.

T-Mobile still hasn’t officially confirmed reports that it will be carrying the iPhone in Germany, but it looks like a little mistake revealed a reference to the iPhone on their website (story in German).

My understanding is that O2’s network in the UK is all 3G, without any support for EDGE. If so, it suggests that 3G iPhones may be available in the US sooner rather than later, if only via the gray market.
It looks like some of the rumors were true , and others were BS
I don’t know what to make of this, but right now, Amazon UK is listing the iPhone. It’s a US listing through, because it mentions Cingular. Interestingly, I can’t find a listing on the US site.
